Paradox of Joyce's works as literary jobs

There is no contention that Joyce's writings are at least very hard to read, if not simply absolutely boring and his later work Finnegans Wake is a mad house gobbledygook gibberish.

But also masterpieces.

Curiously this is a consensus betweem the literary inteligentsia and the general public.
